The policy change of increasing the nurse patient ratio will uphold to Northwell’s mission and vision by allowing nurses to provide more of their time and attention to each patient. It will help to improve the culture and climate of the facility due to staff feeling supported by leadership. Lastly, it will allow organization to save money in overtime so it be better spent in other areas such as education and research.ConclusionAccording to Meyer & O’ Brien- Pallas (2010) the basic premise of the open system is that to perform effectively and produce quality outcomes, an organization must structure its nursing units to complement the environment and technology. By changing old ways of doing things, and accepting new ideals, ZHH can perform effectively and produce quality outcomes. By accepting that change is evident and positive and entertaining the ideal of an open system in the staffing issue, ZHH can help to improve its culture and uphold to its mission and vision.
