ConclusionChronic vein insufficiency and deep vein thrombosis are common and occur frequently ina large percentage of the population. Robertson, Evans and Fowkes (2008), reported that 2 out of every 56 men will experience some form of venous disease in their lifetime, while only 1 out of 60 women will experience the same. This paper provided a greater understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and age-related factors of both CVI and DVT, required forthe advance practice nurse. In addition, the difference between arterial and venous thrombosis were identified and described. Mind maps for both CVI and DVT are also included.
