Appendix C COM/155 Version 4 2 stake in. Compare and contrast You would use this when you are trying to analyze two subjects. This is best used when you analyze two subjects by either comparing them, contrasting them, or both. There are two main organizing strategies by subject or by point. Choose two or more subjects that connect in a meaningful way. Cause and effect You would use this when you ask how and why. It must start in one of two ways. With the cause and then talks about the effect or start with the effect and then talks about the causes. Use the complex nature of cause and effect to your advantage. Be careful of resorting to empty speculation or unsubstantiated guessing. Persuasion You would use this when you are trying to convince, motivate, or trying to get the reader to move to a certain point of you opinion. It must have the five features make up the structure of a persuasive essay Introduction and thesis, opposing and qualifying ideas, strong evidence in support of claim, style and tone of language, compelling conclusion Most of the time we are trying to win the arguments in this type of writing. Avoid forming a paper based on negative claim. Illustrations, Classification are the two that will use most in my professional and academic life.
