o If two or more factors are used in an experiment, the treatments are the factor-level combinations used. An experimental unit is the object on which the response and factors are observed or measured. A designed experiment is one for which the analyst controls the specification of the treatments and the method of assigning the experimental units to each treatment An observational experiment is one for which the analyst simply observes the treatments and the response on a sample of experimental units. Completely Randomized Design: Single Factor A completely randomized design is a design for which independent random samples of experimental units are selected for each treatment.

Conditions Required for a valid ANOVA F-test: Completely Randomized Design o The samples are randomly selected in an independent manner from the k treatment populations. o All k sampled populations have distributions that are approximately normal. o The k population variances are equal. Randomized Block Design The randomized block design consists of a two-step procedure: o Matched sets of experimental units, called blocks, are formed, each block consisting of k, experimental units (where k is the number of treatments). o
