ANSWER 1 By focusing on international relations using the worldviews model and focusing on the four policy worlds, one is able to recognize the different perspectives of how others may perceive the world. Rather than looking at the world and it’s problems through one lens, an individual can look at it through multiple lenses to understand what and where others’ views are and how they are established. According to Robert Lieber, we gain an anarchical system of government in which a self-help system and security dilemma is produced. In this system of government, there is no common power and the power remains in that nation state. There is also no international government and a nation state is basically on its own in which she must take care of her own security problems. What is lost is the flexibility and independence a nation state wants both of. Constraints include treaties, which are formal, and tradition and habit, which are informal. We cannot have both flexibility and independence. Finally, in this worldviews model, there is also a constant search for order going on. Examples include hegemony (a certain state is the global power), BOPO (Balance of Power System), concert (4/5 countries come together and control the world / examples: European Concert system G7), regimes (governing arrangements, each setting up own law and order), regionalism (different regions of the world / example: EU), and the world government (Kantian view of world government / end of Cold War= “Unipolar movement” / America be the hegemonic power of the world). ANSWER 2 -Economic: In reference to the economic world focusing on international relations allows for an influx in accumulation of wealth activities such as trading. For example China is a major exporter, which allows the US to utilize their cheap resources in addition to increasing China’s economy. The only issue that arises here is it creates and interdependence among nations who solely depend on exports and imports. -Political/Military: As far as Political/Military focusing on IR allows for intervention by allies with the one stipulation of having to give up national sovereignty. -Social: In this specific world NGO’s or some may refer to IGO’s of which people come together with similar beliefs against (environment, human rights, labor laws, immigration, ect.) In which this world supports the ideology of that some issues are spread across border and cant be handled solely by one nation. -Cultural: In terms of the Social world focusing on IR expands the cultural beliefs and practices across borders In terms of the 4 worlds focusing on IR broadens the spectrum of which you view these worlds. Each world view/Belief system is a prism that we look through , if you only look through your own belief system you suffer myopia (shortsightedness) you must look at world though different perspectives.
