Downloading and Installing a New Device Driver 2:15-5:54 So what do you do? Go to the manufacturer's website. I went to the URL listed in my documentation, takes me to this website. I scroll down through the list to find the right device. Here it is right here, and here is a link for downloading the driver. If you look at the link that pops up down here, you'll see that is a Windows 10 version of this driver. Now to save time, I've already downloaded it, and I've extracted the file, and the devices drivers are now contained in this folder, in my Downloads folder. So, let's go back to each of these devices. Go to Properties. And what we want to do to troubleshoot the problem is click the Update Driver link displayed right here. Now I have two options. I can let Windows go out and automatically search for the right software. It will first search my local driver store, and if it can't find anything there, it'll search Windows update online to see if it can find a device driver there. I've already tried that and they're not available. So we have to manually browse to the folder I just showed you, to load the Windows 10 device driver. I'll hit browse and we'll go to downloads, and click on the Win10 driver for the Capit video capture device.Click Next, and it's asking me if I want to install this software. I'll say please install it. Now notice as this is installing things are happening back here in the background in Device Manager.Notice that one of my devices that showed up under other devices, yellow exclamation point, isn't there anymore. That's because Windows has now found the correct driver software for that device. In this case, the video capture portion of the device is now supported because the right driver has beenloaded. Click Close. Now, notice what the device status says. It says it's working properly. We're in good shape. Let's do the same thing now under other devices for the audio capture device. I'll click on Update Driver, and once again we'll browse manually for the folder where the device driver that I downloaded resides. Notice that I do include the include subfolders option here. That way it'll search through all of the subfolders of the folder that I select to find the right driver. And this can be really useful, because many times when you download drivers from manufacturer's websites, you'll find that

they don't just include one driver. Instead they have just like one archive file that may have five, 10, 15, or 20 different drivers to support all their different products, all in one file, which makes it easier for the device vendor to keep that file updated with the latest drivers, and they don't have to manually support lots of different separate files. If you don't turn this option on, and this folder contains lots of different drivers, you're going to have to poke through each folder trying to find each driver to see whether or not it works. And that's just a pain. It's a lot easier to just let Windows do it for you, let it poke through all the subfolders and find the right driver. Click Next. We'll wait a minute, and notice once again in the background, that device disappeared from other
