Fashion Valley mall is a hangout spot for just about anyone, because of the different types of clothing shops, restaurants and movie theater. However, ten minutes from Mission Valley is downtown SD where most San Diegans and tourists hang out and are spotted. The streets are always full of people no matter what time of day it is. And across the Interstate 5 there’s Mission Bay and Sea World. South to these two landmarks is an arena that entertains hockey games and concerts. On the weekends, the parking lot of the arena is then converted into Koby’s Swap meet. ● Indicators of Growth or Decline Is this a “thriving” community or does it look “run down?” Is there new or ongoing construction? Businesses and Industries coming to the 4465-4-19_
area? Are buildings, roadways, and public areas clean and well-kept. Do you see dirt, trash, or graffiti ? Mission Valley is a thriving community that does not look run down or have any old dilapidated buildings. There is also the San Diego River that occupies some parts of the community. It is well-kept and manage by the city of San Diego. The city does a great job conserving and protecting the open space element where wildlife species, habitat and wetlands continues to flourish. Most of the business and residential buildings have been well- maintained. The public areas and roadways are clean and well-kept. The streets are smoothly paved without any potholes. There are plenty of trees, bushes and shrubs along roadways and parks. There is no dirt, trash, or graffiti present. All the trash is thrown into their proper trash cans, like the recycling bins. There is no overflow of old furniture, excessive waste or garbage visibly seen along the streets or alley ways. There are no new businesses or industries coming to this area. The only ongoing road construction that is occurring is on Morena Blvd. This is where the city is adding an extension to the new trolley line. Occasionally there is some construction of newly renovated homes within the area. ● Employment Opportunities What places for employment are there is this area? Name the businesses and industries in this area . There are a variety of different employment that are offered in the Mission Valley area. This includes local shops, bars, restaurants, auto repair shops, Jerome’s Furniture and Office Depot. To name a few of the local shops that offer employment are Jamba Juice, Pita Pit, Urban Café, Starbucks, Domino’s Pizza, Little Caesars Pizza, Carl’s Jr., JT Thai Street food, JV’s Mexican food. Within two blocks of 7-Eleven, there is Brick by Brick, Tio Leo’s Mexican and Sardina’s Italian restaurant, which are the larger businesses within the surrounding area that also offer employment. There are no visible industries in this area that can be seen from the main street. However, there is a welding and stone fabrication shop and breweries that is hidden behind Sherman St.
