over all the market places because of low cost on manufacturing and cheaper on user side and less space for it to be installed, where as Apple backed Firewire is in death row because of high price and down-market share. It’s now the time for USB or THUDERBOLT although Firewire and USB have almost same performance. Question 2: State two advantages and two disadvantages of: 1. frequency division multiplexing compared to the other multiplexing techniques 2. synchronous time division multiplexing compared to the other multiplexing techniques 3. dense wavelength division multiplexing compared to the other multiplexing techniques Answer: 1. Advantages of FDM : a. A large number of signals (channels) can be transmitted simultaneously. b. FDM does not need synchronization between its transmitter and receiver for proper operation. 1.Disadvantages : a. The communication channel must have a very large bandwidth b. FDM suffers from the problem of crosstalk. 2. Synchronous TDM advantages : a.   we can transmit more number of signals through a single channel. b. It is immune to amplitude non-linearities.

2. Synchronous TDM disadvantages: a. The channel capacity cannot be used to its fullest. Some of the slots go empty in certain frames. b. The capacity of single communication line that is used to carry the various transmission should be greater than the total speed of input lines.
