Could this crash have been prevented? Why or why not? HFTs were programmed to move stocks at a certain pace depending on the value of the stock. If the stock was losing value, the HFT would sell it, whereas if the stock gained value, it would buy more. With that type of programming, there’s very little that could have been done. This occurred because of the error on part of the mutual fund company where they pushed the sell order in a matter of minutes instead of having it spread out throughout the day. Management issues that had to be addressed were the amount of information that was being passed over to the COO. With the dashboard in place, the management would be able to see exactly how each plant was performing, and whether or not the employees were reporting any discrepancies. Organizational issues that needed to be addressed were the reporting of any diversion from the strategic plan. If there were any issues with the information, the plants were responsible in providing reports on these occurrences. Finally, the technology issue that arose was the limitations of the dashboard.
