diet because it provides those who consume it with calcium, potassium, and vitamin D which is necessary for balanced nutrition. Mediterranean diet consumers can afford to cut back on their protein and fruit intake, as they are higher on the side of consumption recommended. By cutting back on these categories, they could afford slightly more grains, vegetables and much more dairy, which will allow them to have a more balanced diet and nutritional values. 10. In my hypothesis, I stated that the Mediterranean diet would contain more macronutrients, such as carbohydrates and fats. This being said, I came to realize the Mediterranean diet did consume more carbohydrates and the American diet consumed more fats. I predicted that the Mediterranean diet was lacking in micronutrients, such as vitamin A and iron. Turns out, that both the American and Mediterranean diets lack in vitamin A but provide more than enough iron nutrients. I believed that the Mediterranean diet would follow three out of the five categories in the MyPlate recommendations (protein, grains, and dairy), and was surprised to find out that this diet lacked in vegetable, grain, and dairy intake while overindulged in proteins and fruit. The Mediterranean diet falls below 75% on the recommended rate for both dairy and grain intake, while it places over 125% for fruit and protein intake. On the other hand, I thought the American diet would meet all the MyPlate recommendations minus dairy. This turned out to not be the case, as the diet was severely lacking in vegetable, fruit and dairy consumption and were pretty
