You’ll report your decision regarding the null hypothesis, along with test statistic (df, if necessary) = ?, p = ?, d (if rejecting the null) = ?. Part 1: Hypothesis Testing without SPSS (30 pts) Problem 1a: In a statistics class, a teacher is interested in seeing if merely having students sign in everyday in class will increase attendance. Over many prior semesters of statistics teaching, it has been found that the average number of classes students attend is μ = 24 of 30 during the semester with σ = 12. One semester the teacher institutes a sign-in sheet on which students sign in each day. At the end of the semester, in a classroom of n = 49 students, the students have attended an average of ´ X = ¿ 27.5 classes. Using the appropriate statistical test, test the hypothesis that the use of the sign-in sheet improved attendance. Be sure to give all the steps outlines above. Use α = .01. Problem 1b: Go back to Problem 1a. Now assume that the teacher makes no prediction about whether the sign-in sheet will increase or decrease attendance. Use all the information from Problem 1a. ### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
