3 what it is today because of past Chinese intellectuals who were impacted by Western traditions leading them to move to what is now the city and help it flourish with the beginning of the Chinese Communist Party on mainland China, which led to trading back then to be very limited countries that were socialists. Shanghai became the primary financial center for the region considered the Asia-Pacific around the early 1930’s. One of Shanghai’s special characteristic that stands out to me from other cities is that it’s a Financial center that most countries globally come to deal with in China’s borders. Shanghai’s finances weren’t in a good position back in the early 1990’s where it marked the “beginning of China’s development into the Special Economic Zones during 1979” (Wu, and Wong). Shanghai is lucky to become the city it became the location that it resides near the opening of the Yangtze River delta. I find this very interesting because if it were not for the cities location and the government’s constant priority over this city, then Shanghai wouldn’t have become a financial powerhouse now. The Chinese government had planned this out very discreetly shown through, “Determined to see its plans succeed, the Chinese government has allocated $11.3 billion during 1996-2000 to alleviate infrastructure bottlenecks in Shanghai.
