Peer Review 4 and ask themselves if it’s more unethical to let a person suffer or providing a person with hope for an existing and possibly future without pain or death? Comment: The preceding paragraph is effective in creating the impression that lack of information is the main reason why people deem stem cell research unethical. The phrase “All one has to do is study and analyze the vast amount of information on the subject” is well put and will effectively hit the readers’ logos. Comment: Here comes the part where you need your pros and defense on the cons. It is not advisable to start with the positive and end with the negatives. I have read your arguments and I think they are sufficient to persuade people to support your thesis. However, a reorganization and improvement of your rhetorical tools is needed. The ending is what usually sticks to the reader. So I suggest you present first your defense of the cons with subtle mention of its negativities, and then followed by the positives in the ending. This will increase the likelihood that the positive things are what the readers will remember. There are many positive aspects of such research such as the vast amount of illnesses and injuries that it may cure or prevent. Another pro would be, in the event of a women who decides to abort her child, at least the unborn fetus may provide aide to an individual in need, giving the individual a chance. Comment: Use of the term “abortion” may antagonize pro- life readers. I suggest you make it less pronounced or include some other birth related cases.

Peer Review 5 On a negative standpoint, you have people who believe that individuals that conduct this type of research are playing God. There may also be side effects involved with stem cell research, but that is prominent in nearly all major medical procedures. Comment: The preceding paragraph contains two cons. I think it’s better to split it up. Further, the first was left hanging and unanswered. In rhetorics, you don’t leave gaps on your arguments otherwise your audience may deviate from your cause. I think the first issue is answered by the paragraph highlighted blue, so merge them up. Then make the second sentence of the preceding paragraph a separate one. Major advancements were being made by scientists in 1998, when they discovered that cells within the seven day old embryo’s had the remarkable ability to restore and repair damaged tissue (Bethesda, MD: National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2012) . Unfortunately an act passed by congress halted research and demanded human embryos to be destroyed.
