Does member’s withdrawal affect performance of SACCO? 1.5 Justification of the Study The study will benefit the following; 1.5.1 Future Researchers The study will be important to the future students who would wish to research more in this particular area. 1.5.2 Students of Kirinyaga University The student will have to learn more on effects of financial performance of SACCOs and by so they can become trainers of trainees upon completion of their course. 1.5.3 SACCOs Managers Managers of different SACCOs will be able to focus on what affects performance of their organization and this will help them to project more on growth of their SACCOs. 1.5.4 Government SASRA as a regulator of SACCOs will benefit from this study as they will be able to understand and know how to regulate the SACCOs for them to thrive. 7

1.6 Scope The researcher will carry out a research study of SACCOs in Kericho County, where there are several different SACCOs in the region competing amongst each other. The researcher has gained wide range of knowledge and information regarding the factors affecting the financial performance of SACCOs. The researcher has chosen to carry out his research at Imarisha SACCO which will help him to gain more insight knowledge and information which will guide him in pursuance of his study. 1.7 Limitations of the Study There are number of limitations that will be expected in this research study which includes failure to respond to questionnaires and unwillingness by the respondents to give account of some information they consider sensitive. Bias responses due to respondents’ interest on the SACCO will be expected. Time constraint will be another major limitation since the research will be done in a specified time period. . 1.8 Definition of Terms SACCO A savings and Credit Co-operative is a democratic, member driven, self-help cooperative; owned governed and managed by its members who have the same common goal. Cooperative is an association of persons who have come together with a common purpose of pooling their resources together for mutual economic and social benefit.
