CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY 1.1 Brief History of the company mission and vision Kenya canners SACCO society limited was registered as a co-operative society in 1966 but registration renewal was done on 13 April 1987 under the societies Act cap 490. They draw majority of its membership from Delmonte Company based in Thika, but later it opened its common bond to the public in order to patronize its products and services. With, 4579 members in FOSA and BOSA, The society have two FOSA locations at Thika and OL Donyo Sabuk. The SACCO was issued a license on July 2011, to be a deposit taking Society by the SASRA. The license renewed on January 2012 and issued License No. 55/0071/12. The SACCO vision is “To Be a Leading Modern Financial Institution in Kenya Providing Affordable financial Products and Services to our Customers” Its mission is “To mobilize Savings from the members and other stakeholders, to offer them affordable Financial Products and Services through effective management for Growth and Development within a dynamic Environment in accordance with Co- operative Principles and Values.” The SACCO main objectives are: Provision of high quality financial services to members so as they can achieve financial independence Provide banking services to low and high income earners Maximization of income to the benefit of the Sacco members The main core values are responsiveness, integrity, innovativeness, professionalism, Openness, and transparency.The Sacco affairs is run by nine (9) Board members and three (3) Supervisory Committee members all elected during Annual General

Meeting. All the Board members and Supervisory Committee members have signed the Oath of Secrecy and declared their wealth as required by Public Officers Ethics Act of 2003 The day to day affairs of the Society is in the hands of eighteen (19) members of staff, who include; the C.E.O, Branch Manager, a customer care officer, a secretary, Credit officer, loans clerks, accountant, accounts clerks, internal auditor, system administrator, tellers, marketing officers, office assistant. Kenya Canners Sacco is currently running one system that integrates both FOSA and BOSA i.e. CMIS (Co- operative Management Information System) supported by CODIC ltd of Nairobi. 1.2 Core activities 1.3 Departments attached Information Technology (IT) department I was posted to this department on the third day and introduced to the systems administrator.
