Anyone in violation of these policies is subject tosanctions.Students are entitled to receive instruction free from interferenceby other members of theclass. An instructor may withdraw a student from the course when the student's behaviordisrupts the educational process perInstructor Withdrawal of a Student for DisruptiveClassroom Behavior.Netiquette --appropriate online behavior-- is defined by the instructor and includes keepingcourse discussion posts focused on the assigned topics. Students must maintain a cordialatmosphere and use tact in expressing differences of opinion. Policy on DiscriminationArizona State University is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination,harassment, or retaliation for the entire university community, including all students, facultymembers, staff employees, and guests.Title VIITitle VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal law that provides that no person bediscriminated against based on certain specified characteristics:sex, race, color, nationalorigin and religion,age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, andgenetic information. ASU expressly prohibitsdiscrimination, harassment,andretaliationbyemployees, students, contractors, or agents of the university based on any protected status.Inappropriate conduct need not rise to the level of a violation of federal or state law toconstitute a violation of this policy and to warrant disciplinary action/sanctions.Title IXTitle IX is a federal law that provides that no person be excluded on the basis of sex fromparticipation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educationprogram or activity. Both Title IX and university policy make clear that sexual violence andharassment based on sex is prohibited. An individual who believes they have been subjectedto sexual violence or harassed on the basis of sex can seek support, including counseling andacademic support, from the university.
