appreciation for APNs; the adversity that they have faced, the achievements, and the extensive
knowledge that they possess.
This course has also given me the necessary tools and knowledge to meet the MSN Essential II
(Organizational and Systems Leadership) and NP Core Competencies #2 (Leadership Competencies).
The
journey through this course has introduced me to organizational leadership and the importance of how
leadership guides the practice of the APN.
I have learned that the APN cannot just simply transition from
the role of registered nurse to that of CNP without extensive knowledge and skill that makes them an
effective leader in their field.
Being knowledgeable in organizational leadership and conflict
management is pertinent to the APN when faced with dilemmas of unethical or unprofessional
colleagues.
As I move forward in my APN educational journey, I will be aiming to achieve the leadership
competencies that go along with the MSN Essentials and program outcomes.
Leaders need to be
effective by demonstrating initiative, integrity and ethical standards in order to promote efficient
delivery of high-quality health care, and influence government policy and regulations (Mennella, 2016).
The role of leadership in nursing is constantly changing, much like the complex world of health care,
responsibilities are getting greater, more and more organizations are looking toward the nurse for
guidance to promote health care and the nursing profession (Mennella, 2016).
