Associates at Baker McKenzie are thrilled with the firm’s global culture and the opportunity to work on substantive matters from all over the world—all with the possibility to travel and work from any firm office. This, along with the supportive partners, great pay, and focus on training and mentoring, has made associates very happy. However, the firm’s lack of transparency on work performance and career advancement has some associates unsure of their futures at the firm. Satisfaction • “Baker has offered me a set of great experiences (e.g. travel, client exposure, partner exposure, and sophisticated deals) that I feel peers at other large law firms at my level have not received. The work here is truly cross-border, almost all my projects involve an international nexus. It should be noted that an international career is not for everyone. Successful Baker associates are ones that enjoy working with a diverse set of team members and clients (locally and abroad), are comfortable working with and in different cultures, and aren’t afraid to take on significant levels of responsibility early on. Truly a meritocracy.” • “As a general matter, I’m pretty satisfied with my job, although there are times when I would appreciate more responsibility and client contact. There are also times when I would appreciate greater diversity in the nature of the work I receive. However, my colleagues from the most senior partners on down are all great people and intelligent and most are good teachers as well.” • “Baker is the top tax practice on the market, hands down. No other firm on the market has such an expansive tax practice, especially when it comes to international tax. Baker is one of the only law firms that can compete with the Big 4. For these reasons, I could not see myself working for any other law firm.” • “Real substantive work from day 1. Daily partner interaction. Leanly staffed teams so you really do contribute and learn constantly.” Firm Culture • “My colleagues are very easy going and easy to get along with. The office has an organized ‘First Friday,’ which involves social activities on the first Friday of every month, as well as various other social activities in which attorneys can engage.”

I work with a number of partners who are warm, welcoming, and positive. I feel no hesitation in taking issues directly to them or in knocking on their door for answers.” • “Firm has a global culture. Lawyers from other offices around the world visit often. Lawyers socialize occasionally, but not regularly.” • “The culture of the firm is very family oriented. The majority of associates in our practice group have young children or growing families and everyone is very respectful of each other’s time. That being said, the associates enjoy spending time away from work with each other for a quick lunch or

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
