Question Four Around 1919, there was a flood of immigrants who arrived from Wenzhou China, to the industrial zone of Prato near Florence Italy. The Wenzhounese were able to get their start by working off the books at first for cheap labor compared to the Italian workers. However, this later changed as they began to set up their own small textiles businesses, based off of what they had learned from their Italian employers. It was very often that these textiles businesses began to grow and succeed. At the same time the Italian residents began to struggle due to the success of the sudden success of the Wenzhounese. They were struggling to make a living in a manufacturing industry. Those who were struggling in this industry now had the option available to them to become landlords. The Wenzhounese brought in a new strategy to the industry. They figured out a way to cut costs on their expenses as a business. This was done by importing “cheap cloth from China and turned them into what is now referred to as “Fast Fashion”: “Fast

Fashion is able to be sold for a much less expensive prices because the quality in which the clothing is made from is very poor. From this the Wenzhounese were able to expand their business into brands such as Guess and American Eagle. Eventually this has led them to become manufacturers to Prada, Gucci, and many various luxury brands. The wenzhounese who built their own business really started to have successful companies. Question Five Clusters are an important part of change. Clusters help create innovation and competition amongst other companies. Innovation has become an issue for globalization competitiveness with other organizations. Overall, in my opinion I believe that clusters in Italy are deteriorating. I believe this because while they do have their amount of loyal customers that go after quality, the cost is reflected in the well made product. With this they have excluded customers who cannot afford their prices. This has lead people to turn to those manufacturing companies that are using poorer quality. Overall, the Italian clusters are deteriorating due to innovation, change and competition.
