Describe the GHS classification system? GHS system is designed to be consistent and straightforward so that employees can define the type of a chemical that they are working with. The system also aids in classifying chemicals under certain hazardous criteria, and also helps to educate employees on what protective measures to use such as the proper PPE required when handling the chemical as well as any other information needed when handling the chemical. All this information can be found on the SDS sheet or the label that is attached to the chemical. What is the format for the GHS Safety Data Sheet (SDS)? The format of SDS sheets provides safety measures in 16 sections that cover the identification of the chemical or substance, identified hazards, composition/information on ingredients, first-aid measures, fire-fighting measures, accidental release measures, handling and storage, exposure controls/personal protection, physical and chemical properties, stability and reactivity, toxicological information, ecological information, disposal considerations, transport information, regulatory information, and other information that pertains to the chemical (GHS 101: Safety Data Sheet (SDS), n.d.). Every Safety Data Sheet should include a clear description of hazards involved with the chemical and what precautions should be taken in the event of a contact or spill. In your opinion, what are the benefits and drawbacks of this system? In my opinion, The GHS system has connected The Right to Know programs when dealing with chemicals on a global scale.
