The instruments consists of barriles/bombas, cúa, and maracas. Bomba requires two drums to be played, the primo/subidor and the beleador. The Primo/Subidor is a high pitch lead drum that follows the dancer, replicating the dancers’ movement to create a beat called “Repique.” The Beleador is a low pitch drum that creates a steady beat. The Cúa are two wooden sticks hitting a wooden surface that is hollow at both ends to create a rhythm as its purpose is to keep time. The Maracas is a rattle containing small stones, seeds or peronia
