4. Why do you think defining crime is so difficult? Give an example of a situation in which a “crime” might not be considered a crime? Defining crime is so difficult because no two crimes or situations are the same. Every single one has even the tiniest detail that could be different, and that one known detail could change the nature of the entire crime. For example, if someone were being robbed at gunpoint and threatened their life, but the victim shot the robber with their own gun, it could be ruled as self defense. 5. Criminology combines the theories and insights of a number of different disciplines as well as adding its own insight about crime and criminals. Do you think this interdisciplinary approach is positive or negative for understanding crime? What benefits or disadvantages might it have for the field? What other discipline do you think has the most to offer for the understanding of crime and criminals? An interdisciplinary approach in crime is definitely positive, the more information known the better. Although no two crimes are the same, many could be similar. It could get tricky in the fact every crime is different and has its own set of details, but using past information definitely helps to figure out the present.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
