87 EDUCATION STATISTICAL ABSTRACT 2011 90 Results reveal that out of the 164 tertiary institutions that responded Degree awarding institutions (universities and other institutions) constitute 19.5%. Majority of the institutions are business institutions with a tune of 34.8%. For details refer to table 8.1 above. 8.3 Student Information 8.3.1 Student Enrolment by Gender A total enrolment of 196,570 students (110,255 males and 86,135 females) was registered in all tertiary institutions across the country with a gender imbalance of 56% in favor of male students. Table 8.2 below shows the details of student enrolment by gender and category in the country with the majority of students enrolled in degree awarding universities and affiliated colleges [140,096 students of these 78,817 males and 61,270 females].
