3.What are the preconceptions about the candidate that Josie is expressing? 4. What do you feel that Josie sees as a ‘normal’ Australian – is this the reality, explain. I feel that Josie sees a ‘normal’ Australian as someone of Caucasian appearance, whose primary language is English and does not wear clothing that may represent a cultural background. Josie’s view of what an Australian ‘should’ look like is not the reality as Australia has one the largest multicultural populations in the world – resulting in many different skinned, different accented and different dressing peoples. 5. Discuss Jessica’s response in relation to the changing nature of Australian culture and cultural competence Jessica’s response shows that she is very aware of the multicultural society that we live in and that we should respect one another and work together to achieve our shared goals (as with many Australian’s). Her response shows an understanding that to judge someone on their appearance is not acceptable and that she would value the input from someone of a different cultural background. 6.What are the difference between these two people and what do you think has made their responses so different? 7.How could these attitudes affect the work role of Josie? 8.Discuss the problem that Josie may have with regard to breaching legal requirements
