One thing I’ve read about that I find very interesting is the idea of city buildings that have been turned into agricultural centers powered from the wind and sun at their high altitudes. The systems that are encompassed provide food for the population and reduce shipping costs from more rural places. In terms of energy and materials, I believe that our consumption rates MUST be diminished or our environment will no longer be able to sustain our population. With that, it’s hard to change lifestyles, especially those of higher-class and higher technology. Instead, implement renewable systems: Closed loop systems that are intended for the recycling of goods starting with their design and the manufacturing process. This may not be the answer to all of our problems, but people will eventually realize that their lifestyles are at stake and will have no choice but to conform to more sustainable, responsible consumer lifestyle practices.
