Adams 6 time and place these specific occurrences happened that triggered the PTSD during their service. “Fortunately, as of 2011, the secretary of Veteran Affairs has made it easier for veterans whole believe they are disable by wartime stress to file benefit claims…” (Satel 2011). The previously denied patient has the opportunity to appeal but is then told it is a waiting game with up to 5 years for the system to approve or deny the appeal. During this waiting game, unknown to the majority of our soldiers, there is a program from the Social Security Department to obtain benefits during their long wait with the Department of Veteran Affairs. This program was established when the Social Security Department decided on a proactive role in assisting our soldiers, they named the project “Wounded Warrior Expedited Project. This is a fast track system to allow soldiers a disability benefit separate from the VA and ability to have private medical care not affiliated with the VA. Currently, New legislation has been passed allowing treatment outside of the VA Health System. The civilian community of doctors are more encouraging to prescribe natural forms of treatment instead of bombarding them with medication therapy. Some of these therapies include mental health based treatment and wellness type of treatments to include Yoga, Meditation, and Acupuncture, tai chi, biofeedback, massage, hypnosis, guided imagery and relaxation therapy. These therapies are natural and a reinforcement to the overall wellness that nothing more negative can happen. It allows the doctors to get to the bottom of their issues instead of masking them with opioid treatment. Also this treatment has been proven to

Adams 7 have positive long lasting effects and a reinforcement of lessening the use of opioids and the heightened PTSD triggers. “ Among a nationally representative sample, rates of CAM increased for managing anxiety (20.2% to 27.9%) and depression (40.9% to 42.7%) between 1990 and 1997 (9). In another nationally representative sample, survey results showed that CAM therapies were used more commonly than conventional therapies to treat self-defined anxiety attacks (51.9% vs. 40.8%) and severe depression (63.9% vs. 36.4%) (10)”.
