Bryan-College Station, Texas Brazos County A.K.A Brazos Valley or Aggieland. College Station is considered a “college town” it used to be small, but with the university expanding, the population is growing. The Center Point I chose was Kyle Field, which is Texas A&M University’s football stadium. North of Kyle field there is the college campus with many new and old buildings and the “Welcome to Aggieland” water tower. Northgate, which is all the local bars, clubs and restaurants on University drive, and as far as Chicken oil company, a well known restaurant which is officially in the city of Bryan. West of Kyle Field there is railroad tracks along Wellborn road and west campus, George Bush 2
Library and Easterwood Airport. South of Kyle field you will find many residential homes and apartments, a few local businesses. South east you will find College Station Medical center and Baylor Scott and White Hosiptal at the corner of Highway 6 and Rock Prairie Road. East of Kyle field you will find the rest of the main campus, many restaurants, local businesses along Texas Avenue and University Drive. There are also residential homes all the way to Highway 6. ● Housing and Zoning What is the age of the houses? Describe type of construction material, appearance, and general condition. Do you see single family housing? Multi-family housing ? Bryan-College Station is constantly growing. There are old homes south of campus these were built in the 1940s to 1970s. Some homes have been remodeled or even torn down and have been built brand new in the past five years. The older homes are wooden with brick. And the newer homes are more style craft or bungalow style homes. There are also many new and old apartments in the area to accommodate college kids off campus housing. There is constantly construction for new apartments for college kids every year as the university expands. I believe that there is more housing than there is for the population. ● Common Meeting Places Where do people in the neighborhood hang out? Who hangs out there and what hours of the day ? Texas A&M Campus is very popular for College kids and many visitors to hang out. You are going to find college kids on campus 24/7. You will find all age groups on Saturdays at Kyle Field for game day. There will be tourists from out of town, and people of all ages on campus and at Northgate on game day weekends. Northgate and all its local bars is popular for the younger adult population. ● Indicators of Growth or Decline Is this a “thriving” community or does it look “run down?” Is there new or ongoing construction? Businesses and Industries coming to the area? Are buildings, roadways, and public areas clean and well- kept. Do you see dirt, trash, or graffiti ?
