Many patients are eligible for retirement or disability benefits, but they are often unaware of the options that are available to them. Many patients go without available resources that they do not know are available to them, which can lead to a lack of food and shelter. Research studies frequently take into account that socioeconomic factors such as education level, employment status, and income level are determinants of both mental and physical health (Nagasu, Kogi, & Yamamoto, 2019). We should gather this information from our patient to determine his socioeconomic status and the impact that it is having on his current health and future goals. This patient’s lifestyle choices are a contributing factor to his current status. He reports a history of cocaine and alcohol abuse, in addition to being a current smoker. These lifestyle choices have been negatively effecting his health. Lifestyle-related harm is a substantial and growing burden on society, and this harm is associated with emerging lifestyle factors such as altered sleep status and more traditional lifestyle factors such as smoking (Foster et al., 2018). medication, so we can gather that he was following with providers and obtaining his prescribed medications in the past. We should ask about lifestyle choices that he has made in the past and goals that he would like to create for the future. We are not aware of his spiritual and cultural beliefs, so it would be helpful to obtain this information and to determine their impact on his current and future health goals.
