Would his friends, after reading this book, still feel this way? What is it about the lack of involvement in war, violence, or loss that makes it intriguing to others? 300 Violence is, of course, a major theme in these pages—physical, psychological, social, and otherwise. Indeed, some of the more violent passages in this book make for very difficult, if not unsettling, reading. In a well organized essay reflect on what the consequences or aftereffects, both intended and unintended, of violence are. Aesop Storytelling is a powerful force in Ishmael’s life. Why is telling stories important —for Ishmael, for families, for communities, for nations? Consider the parables of the wild boar (53), the Bra spider (74), and the trickster monkey (217). Consider also the lessons or morals of these stories when formulating your thesis. You can’t handle the truth! There are numerous resources stating that Beah has falsified dates, events, and even the map in his memoir. After reading the novel (Beah’s side of the story) and the claims against him (The Australian, etc.) who is correct? In a persuasive essay, prove which side is right in its claim—you must pick a side; no wishy-washiness!
