gyms. There are also several bars around the area. Both of these habits can contribute to cardiovascular disease and may play part in the increase of cardiovascular events. The second issue not discussed with either informant was drinking rates in the community. As mentioned earlier and found in the windshield survey people go to hang out at one of the many bars in the area. There are five liquor stores in the community. It was also noted that many of the bars are full of smoke upon entering. In the United States 19% of people reported excessive drinking and Texas was 19.5% (Texas Summary Report, 2019). Both of these issues are prominent in Giddings as noted by observations. 6. Other data as needed (air, water quality, crimes rates). Remember compare objective data for your community with local (city), state, and national data . Remember to cite sources as appropriate. 4465-5_19

For the city of Giddings the reported crimes in 2017 was 2,406 per 100,000. The state the same year was 3,002 per 100,000 and nationally it was 2,745 per 100,000. The most reported crime in the city was theft and property crime, which was higher than both state and national numbers (Giddings, TX, Crime, 2017). Analysis of Data 1. Based on your subjective and objective review of your findings, what conclusions have you arrived at? Remember to cite sources as appropriate. What impressions from your subjective observations were unfounded/invalid? A subjective observation that was invalid was in regards to race. My subjective data showed that Hispanics were a minority when really they make up almost 40% of the population as mentioned earlier. Also, I saw many opportunities for employment but according to objective data the unemployment rate is high at 7.2% (Giddings Employment Information, 2019). The poverty rate was also higher and a finding not seen when collecting subjective data. Given the objective data , what impressions were validated/substantiated? Cardiovascular disease was the number one finding that was validated by my objective data. My observations of the environment, informant interviews, and data collected showed the background behind high cardiovascular disease in the area of 4465-5_19

Giddings. Excessive drinking was another impression validated based on the information gathered. Another observation identified was the number of Caucasians in the city. During my windshield survey it was found the majority of the city to be Caucasian. The objective data gathered supports this because according to the demographics 75.34% are Caucasian followed by Hispanics (Giddings Demographic Data, 2016). What cause-and-effect relationships did you discover/identify? There are a number of fast food chains in the city of Giddings from McDonald’s to Whataburger and a number of liquor stores in the area. Both of these items contribute to the increase of cardiovascular events and excessive drinking found in the area.
