to be more efectve in the long run than those who focus on diference 5. If someone relies on one power for too long all other sources of power will diminish - If we don’t contnuously improve and develop ourselves we could soon fnd that the expertse on which we relied is no longer needed 6. Any atempt to utlize power outside the range of power will tend to reduce the power - One should rather start with the least amount of power so that you can escalate at a later stage, if you start at a maximum there is nowhere to go except downward 7. Power of authority should be linked to responsibility and accountability if not it has extremely negatve consequences - Great to have important ttles and the benefts that come with power but not many people are willing to take the responsibility that comes with it 8. To expand power you must share it - Those who share their power with those who report to them gain even more power in the process 9. Recogniton of security, the social role and the power of a negotator will lead to a decrease of power deployment - The needs for a signifcant role and a measure of power are some of the very basic and universal needs of man 10. Only the strong can aford to be weak, the weak can seldom aford to be weak. In fact the strong by being weak become even stronger 11. Victms become aggressors: The worse the victmizaton the worse the aggression - Good negotators never leave victms who could return to haunt them later 12. Power should be deployed in all group decision making. Whoever does not deploy his or her power becomes a risk in decision making - Place the group at risk of making inferior or even dangerous decisions by creatng the impression that they agree whilst they don’t 13. The deployment of power leads to creatve confict which in tme creates alternatves for decision-making - When confict is not directed towards other individuals in the group, but focuses on the problem at hand it is ofen said to be constructve Negotatng within Business Politcs - Necessary to navigate and negotate carefully in the maize of politcs that exists in any organisaton - Politcal behaviour is a natural part of every organizaton - Common forms of organisatonal politcs Atacking or blaming others - Negotators use this as an opportunity to create trust for themselves by blaming others for their mistakes that they in fact have caused Selectve use of informaton - Timing the release of informaton and weighing the choice of informaton a person can distort the percepton that others will form from the informaton Downloaded by Shaun Mlangeni ([email protected]) lOMoARcPSD|3347332

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
