The paper analyzed the possibility of substitution between compost and mineral fertilizer in order to determine the impact on the foreign exchange savings in Cameroon of increasing the use of compost. To test this, a partial equilibrium model was built and used as a tool for simulations. Results from the scenarios used in the modeling exercise showed that, increasing the compost availability is the most favorable policy for the substitution of mineral fertilizer by compost. This policy helps to save about 18.55% of the annual imported mineral fertilizer quantity and thus to avoid approximately 8.47% of the yearly total import expenditure in Cameroon. The policy of decreasing the transport rate of compost in regions that are far from the city is also favorable to the substitution. Therefore, in order to encourage the substitution of mineral fertilizer by compost, programs of popularization of compost should be highlighted and be among the top priorities in the agricultural policy of the Cameroon government. For my RP project, I not only plan to talk about the use of human waste as fertilizer, but want to also discuss the uses of chemical fertilizer. I want to go over the pros and cons, just like I will do for human waste. This article provides me with the pros of using chemical fertilizer on a wide scale. I plan to place this information in the recent section of my literature review.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
