● Religions
What signs of religion do you see? Discuss the types of churches,
mosques, temples?
What services are offered by these churches,
e.g., Day Care, Mother’s Day Out, Summer Camps, Languages
Classes, Citizenship Classes, Food Banks, Clothing, other
.
There were many different religions noted among the churches within the
town of Willis: Methodist, Non-denominational, Lutheran, Baptist, and
Christian. Frequent activity was observed around the churches. Each parking
lot was full at all of the churches on Sunday’s. There was not a mosque noted
in Willis. There were daycares with lots of outdoor activities and festivities
for the children. The Family faith church offered year-round daycare and all
of the churches advertised for Summer Vacation Bible School. There a
clothing donation center near the fire station in town at the Church of Christ.
Business &
Industry
Describe stores and shops available in the community, e.g., grocery
stores, gas stations, department stores. What type of business climate
exists?
Manufactures? Light or heavy industry?
Large employers?
Small business owners?
Retail? Hospitality industry?
Do people have
to seek employment elsewhere?
Is this considered a “bedroom
community”- where people work outside this community but live here
?
Make sure you address fully what you observed and NOTE if
something was not found within your community area.
There’s a super center Kroger in town and a small local grocery store that sold
predominantly Hispanic cultural foods. There are not any department stores in
town, just a few boutiques. The closest department stores are located in
Conroe about an 8-minute drive south. The Super center Kroger had just
about anything you could possibly need, clothes, furniture, you name they
have it. Landscaping is superb at Kroger. The small grocery store on the other
hand does not have landscaping at all and seemed a little dirty. There were 10
gas stations within a 10-mile radius. Chick-fil-a, McDonalds, Sonic, Taco
Bell, Jack-in the Box are the fast food restaurants noted throughout town.
Dairy Queen was noted on the outskirts of town on FM 1097 near a Spec’s
liquor store. CVS and Walgreens were located just 0.2 miles away from each
other next to Kroger on FM 1097. Because Kroger is the only large employer
in Willis, residents are forced to seek employment outside of Willis. I would

definitely classify this town as a “bedroom community.”
Politics
What indicators do you see about politics? Posters? Headquarters
?
Make sure you address fully what you observed and NOTE if
something was not found within your community area.
A small municipal court house is noted in town and easily accessible and
clearly visible from the road with well-manicured green space. No politic
banners, signs, billboards, or posters were noted during the windshield
analysis. The only political advertisements were small yard signs displaying
the president of choice. Many “Make America Great Again” signs were in
yards of local neighborhoods.
