According to Kirst-Ashman and Hull, (2015), p. 389, “Understanding the dynamics of in African American families is as critical as it is in other families.” My Parents took in their nieces and nephews at their time of need, and I am currently doing the same. When I married young, my Parents provided my husband and me with an apartment in a building they owned. Through this, we were able to complete our undergraduate studies without much debt. I pretty much did the same for my son and young wife. Now I am taking on the task of helping my nephews get on their feet. My sister’s job transferred her to Arizona, and they are old enough not to follow, but not stable enough to be on their own. The social worker would need to know my background and my views on the family to determine why I would take on the more financial responsibility that I can handle. If a social worker didn't know this about my family,

her solutions to my problem would not fit. The social worker may think that finding housing would be a solution for my nephews. If she didn't know my family dynamics, this might be an offensive suggestion. Suggesting that I turn my back on my family when It has been my family culture to take care of each other.
