just as prevalent as their illegal siblings. Inside the popular media and news portal, the focus is on the celebration for the victory of law enforcement in a dramatized manner and resulting a subjective view of drugs. The medias exposure of illegal drugs rarely offers insight into the users experience or the chemical effect on the human body (Manderson, 1995) . The fulfillment of pleasure is legally being replaced by the chemicals in synthetic opiates regardless the tightening of the synapic feedback driving the individual to be addicted or in better words ‘dependent’. Law forbids the substance in its natural form along with the knowledge of use; the problem and desire inside the initiation of drug use is concealed. As a puzzled teenager Marc expresses the absence of care from both his parents with the shift to boarding school feeling making him feel like a burden to the family. This initial lack of family support contributes heavily on his later experience of being bullied and harassed. This long and drawn out suffering leads him to try alcohol for the first time. Meanwhile, the mass media systematically portrays cannabis as the gateway drug that needs to be banned. A study done amongst 2,800 twelfth graders surveyed that their initial experience with drug use were predominately from alcohol with 54% of them trying it, 32% for tobacco and only 14% for cannabis. In the public eye, alcohol consumption is a harmless habit, when in truth; it causes just as much public and personal harm as many illegal drugs (Lachenmeier & Rehm, 2015) . Marc’s gateway drug to everything after was alcohol, yet later on during the time when he was clean, he conveniently considers alcohol consumption to be normal. He mentions ‘I drank whisky when I felt sad and lonely, and that seemed so normal.
