year for healthcare fraudsters: of the $2.8 billion recovered by the DOJ under the False Claims Act $2.5 billion was attributed to fraud and improper claims from healthcare providers. Believe it or not healthcare fraud impacts us a great amount each year. Listen to this, healthcarefraud costs the nation about $68 billion annually with 3% of the nation’s $2.6 trillion in health care spending. Along with this I found some tips on preventing healthcare fraud, here are a few;protect your health insurance ID card like you would a credit card, report fraud IMMEADIATELY, be informed about your health care services you receive, read your policy and benefit statements and finally beware of “free” offers. Then of course I will bring in the three case studies that I found from the FBI website. One involving an entire health care agency charged in an alleged multi-million-dollar scheme to receive referrals for Medicare patients, another involving an executive director of a center for the autistic putting fraudulent claims to a private insurer for therapeutic services not rendered and finally a doctor who pled guilty of accepting bribes and kickbacks from a pharmaceutical company in exchange for prescribing fentanyl.
