the most simple or complex projects (Cobb, 2012). The chart will break down tasks and trackdurations of each phase so a project manager can monitor each step. A Gantt chart provides avisual timeline during a project's life and keeps things organized. The critical path method canalso be used to monitor project tasks. The CPM takes a more sophisticated approach to projectscheduling and using mathematical calculations to show projects critical path (McConnell,2011). The term critical path is used to pinpoint the projects most time-consuming tasks. Thishelps estimates the earliest time a project can be completed. This tool requires a lot of attentionfrom the project manager. Finally, the program evaluation and review technique, also known asPERT, uses a similar approach as the critical path using a diagram (McConnell, 2011). This toolalso gives three different time estimates; optimistic time, a likely time and a pessimistic time. Then provides a probability distribution of that task. This tool would be used in a more complexproject in which time estimates are more of a risk.Handling Over Allocated ResourcesEven with monitoring and scheduling project plans, unexpected things arise, and planschange. During a project's lifetime, it can require more work or more resources. When a projectrequires more resources due to its abundance of tasks, this is called resource overallocation(Cobb, 2012). This can be a risk with companies especially when their resources are small andare divided between multiple tasks. Therefore, project management and planning is so vital!Resources must be planned for and divided equally throughout the project as to not exhaust oroveruse any one. If this is to occur attention to detail is vital, and adaptation is key to projectsuccess.
