as Haley listened to Tessa. I assume she feels the same warmness in her chest, the bubbling in her stomach. That was my taste of freedom it’s what made all the bad moments worth it. I just know that the people in my car are okay and they feel okay. I can hear it in their laughter. The laughter not created by a joke but a vibe. Everything in the car seemed perfect. However, As much as I only wanted my car to be filled with laughter it was also filled with pain. Betsy allowed to me to open up about anything and everything. It was a place where no could enter. I was able to lock everyone out and lock all the secrets in. It was Haley, Tessa and my safe haven. I remember the first time the car was my safe haven. It was when I was alone for the first time in the car. I was sitting there and it hit me that I was sixteen years old and I didn’t have my father around to teach me to drive. I cried so hard that night, the privacy that Betsy offered me allowed me to release my emotions. Moreover, my car allowed me to open and grieve the lost of my father. Going into a new high school with no one knowing anything about you or your past was hard. No one in the school knew that when I was eleven years old my father had passed. It wasn’t till I was given my first car did the reality of being father less settle in. Having no one to know you didn’t have a father made it easier to pretend that I had both parents. So, I began to enter a state of denial until Betsy came about. Betsy save me, saved me by forcing me to grieve. Moreover, it was seven O’clock on a summer night and I wanted to drive. So I went to Tessa’s house and picked her up. From there I drove to our spot at the top of the hill. I parked the car facing Cincinnati so I could see the sun settle in for the night. The air
