Surrounding this are are lot of historical landmarks, like temples and canyons, which would be subject to water damage. Another staple of this area, is the Yangtze River dolphin. The Yangtze River Dolphin is an endangered species in china and has often been referred to as a “The Goddess of the Yangtze”. These dams cause a lot of threats to the survival of their species, including blocking the migratory patterns of fish, being accidently hooked by a fisherman and being injured by boat propellors. Not to mention the pollution and run off that is locked into the river by the damn is extremely detrimental to their survival. “They have been legally protected in China since 1975 and programs to breed the Yangtze River Dolphin in captivity have been established to preserve the species” (MarineBio.Org).
