Describe the theme of the story.I think the theme of this story is wealth, poverty, generosity, and love. The theme of wealth and poverty are very important themes in this story. While being financially poor, Jim andDella prove to be emotionally rich. The theme generosity is shown because how Jim and Della, both love their most prized possession, but they are both willing to sell their possessions to make the other happy. The theme of love is shown through the selfless actions of both Jim and Della; both of them sell their most prized possessions so they can go out and buy Christmas gifts for each other. The love they have for each, can overcome the poverty. Select three literary elements/techniquesin the story and describe them.A literary element in the story is simile, which would be the comparison between two things using like or as. The simile I seen in the story was the description of Della’s hair, “So now Della’s beautiful hair fell about her rippling and shining like a cascade of brown waters” (Clugston).
