2 Use the Owner Id input argument in order to define a task step that generates a new item in the Inbox for the user to which the task UI is assigned. 3 Add a task step to the workflow process. If you add a task step to a workflow process, then the workflow generates a new instance of the task UI and assigns it to an end user. For more information, see “Defining a Task Step” on page 84 . Workflow Persistence Workflow persistence is a property of a workflow process that is used to store the state of an instance of a workflow and the steps and process properties for the workflow. Thus, supporting, within a single workflow, transactions that are long lived. By using workflow persistence to store the state of a workflow, you can build an end-to-end workflow that includes a wait step, sub process step, and other interruptions. Persistence also maintains the active state of a workflow over short or long periods of time, with activity occurring in various parts of your enterprise. The state of the workflow process and process properties are saved in the S_WFA_INSTANCE and S_WFA_INST_PROP tables. How Workflow Persistence Can be Used to Resume a Workflow Process Workflow persistence allows resumption of a workflow process after a pause or a server failure. Workflow persistence saves and restores data when the workflow is resumed. If persistence is set to TRUE, then a user can continue a workflow that is suspended. The suspended workflow displays in the Inbox for the user. For example, with persistence set on an interactive workflow process, a user of the workflow can take a work break. If the workflow persistence parameter times out, then the workflow displays in the Inbox for the user and is ready for resumption when the user returns. The workflow persistence setting applies to the long-running workflow process, interactive workflow process, and 7.0 workflow process. You cannot use workflow persistence with a service workflow. The persistence property uses a YES or NO setting. For a long-running workflow, persistence is automatically set by the server at execution time. For an interactive workflow, you set the persistence property by using the Auto Persist flag in the Workflow Processes OBLE in Siebel Tools.

Siebel Business Process Framework: Workflow Guide Version 8.1, Rev A Options for Developing a Workflow Process About the Workflow Mode Property 142 How Workflow Persistence Functions with Different Workflow Process Modes Behavior for persistence includes: A long-running workflow process is automatically persistent. If the Auto Persist flag is set, then an interactive workflow process is persistent on suspension. You control workflow persistence by setting the Auto Persist flag. If the Auto Persist flag is set to YES, and if a session times out or if an end user logs out of a Web session, then a workflow process is persistent and can be resumed from the Universal Inbox.
