Question #9 What is a gap analysis? In e-business, a gap analysis is a technique used to determine shortfalls in staffing, software, and hardware. To conduct this analysis, the e-business first must determine what its future state will look like. It then takes a thorough inventory of the current state in the area it is being focused. Once this is done, the current state is compared to the future state to determine the gaps that need to be filled. Question #10 Does outsourcing mean that an e-business will not need technical personnel? No. While it is possible to outsource some technical functions, the e-business must still have staff members who understand the technology. This staff may manage remote servers or act as a liaison with the outsourcer’s technical staff to discuss and resolve issues such as changes to the systems, links to internal systems, and updates as needed.
