Because of changes recently made in the Enigmail / GnuPG (GPG) Graphical User Interface (GUI), it is nolonger possible to attach a comment to the key(s) you will create when doing this in the GUI. Thus, youwill need to use the GPG command-line to carry out this task. Once this is completed, you can continuethe rest of the process back in the GUI.7.On eLab, in Windows, use the command-line version of GPG to create your key(s).a.Open the Windows command line (WINDOWS key | cmd)b.Change to your U: drive (typeU:and pressENTER)c.Create your key by running thegpg –full-generate-keycommand. See an example in thescreenshotbelow, but make sure you use the correct information for you for this semester:correct semester information, correct name abbreviation, correct punctuation, correctupper-/lower-case, and correct “real” name, e-mail address, comment, and expiration.(“4m” is theexpiration notation for “4 months”.) Use the defaults for the kind of key and itssize.d.When a popup window appears, type a passphrase in to be used when you want to accessanduse your keys. You will be asked to type this in twice, to ensure that you have typed itcorrectly.
e.Once you have completed this successfully, your key will now be stored in the gpg keydatabase, and can be accessed via the Thunderbird / Enigmail / GPG GUI. You will proceedthere for the next steps in the configuration process.
