Identify whether or not the principles you discussed in Part 1 support administering a lethal dose of medication in Part 2. Then do one of the following. If you think the principles do not support administering a lethal dose of medication, explain what the ethically relevant differences are between Dave’s requests in Part 1 and 2. If you think the principles do support administering a lethal dose of medication, explain if this represents a counterexample to your argument (given in b) in support of withdrawing Dave’s ventilator. Should your recommendation for Part 1 be modified in any way? Why or why not? (d) Provide an ethics recommendation to the physician about how to proceed in Dave’s Case, Part 2. Also address the physician’s question about Part I by either clarifying or revising your position. Your recommendations for Parts 1 and 2 should be consistent with each other, and with your reasoning throughout the essay. *Case adapted from Franklin Miller, Robert Truog, Dan Brock, “Moral Fictions and Medical Ethics” Bioethics 24(9), 2010: 453-460
