Gender itself becomes a free-floating artifice, with the consequence that man and masculine might just as easily signify a female body as a male one, and woman and feminine a male body as easily as a female onePerformativity-Agency becoming involved with gender, ‘men make their history but they don’t makeit as they please’, under systems established already; gender as a process is something like that, it is not a possession but a process we take part of it that we are not perfectly free to choose -Gender becomes proporial purpose being innovated, choice in this context signifies interpretation of entrenched cultural norms – we can kind of choose our gender, but we can’t make it as we please (there is agency but there is also structure) -Gender is an active style living one’s body
-Gender and sex are discursively reproduced and enacted by people (socially constructed)-But they are not, thereby, reducible to language and/or ‘choice’-Gender is an active style of living one’s body in the world-The body is thus experienced as a mode of becoming Performativity-
