School attendance laws and large expenditures for education demonstrate the United State's recognition of the importance of being educated. It is considered the foundation of good citizenship. In the days that followed Plessy v. Ferguson, children faced being denied equal educational opportunities. Children were forced to accommodate to a social construct that they took no part in and suffered the consequences of a segregated school with a set of discriminatory staff. Those who acted on their disapproval of desegregation, hindered the educational rights that belong to all students.
