efficiency by being tasked with keeping operating systems modern, properly linked and agile. In doing so, management would have a better understanding of the business’s strengths and weaknesses in order to make informed decisions quickly. IT contributes to achieving the overall business strategy by aiming to maintain a competitive difference from other institutions through superior technology and being ranked as one of the leading financial institutions. 1-14 Was Deutsche Bank using technology effectively to pursue its business strategy? Explain your answer. In the early 2000’s Deutsche Bank used technology very poorly. They were unable to maintain their operating systems through their various mergers and the overall strategy to acquire other financial institutions and companies back fired. They took too much on and could not operate efficiently which in turn hurt their reputation. Things changed in 2015 under the management of Kim Hammonds and the multi billion-dollar Hewlett-Packard deal. Hammonds goal was to reengineer Deutsch Banks by standardizing and simplifying their IT infrastructure with the hope of reducing operating costs. Although they took a loss in 2018, the technology they are implementing is in the right direction to achieve their business strategy.
1-15 What solution for Deutsche Bank was proposed? How effective do you think it will be? Explain your answer. CEO John Cryan proposed to standardize Deutsch Banks systems and procedures by eliminating outdated software and implementing a new simplified operating system accessible to all departments within the organization. The solution would help improve the accuracy of the data within their reporting. I think the new strategy will be very effective in the long term but bring up challenges in the short term due to the lack of user knowledge from the employees acquired during the mergers.
