As I read the question, the ±rst thing that came to mind was the culture of the country and the e²ects it has on the workforce. I actually just reviewed an article for another class that followed a study done on the e²ect of culture on the workforce. The article can be read here using your Bellevue login: Curtis, M., PHD, CPA, Conover, T., PHD, Lucianetti, L., CPA, & Battista, V. (2016). Business Judgments and National Culture: A Comparison of U.S. and Italian Management Accountants. Management Accounting Quarterly, (Fall). This study speci±cally looked at the di²erences in attitudes towards work and reactions in business situations between Italian accountants and American accountants. The ±ndings that culture plays a signi±cant role in how an individual reacts to situations in the business world is not surprising. The study measured factors such as uncertainty avoidance, tendency to feel more comfortable working independently or in a group, and comfort level of having managers with more power than employees. These are important considerations when choosing a country to do business in because the workforce is what keeps the company going, and if they are not understood and respected, productivity will su²er. Sounds like you found a reference that supports my assertion that US companies moving to other countries is not resulting in big pro±ts as they hoped and returning to the US. And yes, our country o²ers many incentives for foreign companies to do business here. Let's just hope both trends continue. Francisco
