Without attending class and taking notes, the tests are very challenging. Therefore, students should make every effort to attend class. If you miss a class, you are responsible for getting the material. I will answer specific questions, but I will not re-teach any lecture or give the notes for it. MISSED READING ASSESSMENTS:In the case of a personal or family emergency, you must contact the Dean of Students at 644-2428. I will receive official notification from them if your absence is to be excused. Otherwise you will receive 0% for the assessment you missed. 4 If you have an EXCUSED absence, you will need to: 1. Notify the instructor of any valid, verifiable excuse in advance if possible and provide documentation for the absence. If you miss an assessment due to a documented emergency, you need to present official documentation within 72 hours and then schedule a make-up assessment with me. You cannot make up missed assessments without documentation. If you miss an assessment due to a university-sanctioned event or religious holiday, you must notify me beforethe exam to make alternative arrangements. ***A missed assessment due to unacceptable reasons will result in a failure for that assessment. Note: All make-up assessments will be based on the same information, but are understandably different and will reflect the additional time you have had to study. LATE WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: The same valid excuses apply for late writing assignments. Late papers presented without official documentation (an excused absence) lose 10 points per day, including Saturdays and Sundays. Late papers must be time stamped in the History Department (the stamp will say “History Department”) and placed in my mailbox located in the Department office.Do not place a late paper underneath my office door or deliver them through third parties. You cannot turn in a late paper more than 10 days after the due date.STUDENT CONDUCT: You must illustrate respect for your peers and myself. I do not tolerate outbursts or loud talking during class. If you have a question, concern, or comment, please ask me. If you persistently talk or disrupt the class in any way after I ask you to stop the disruptive behavior, I will ask you to leave. This ensures the classroom maintains an environment that is conducive for learning.
