Conservatives – Yes for the good of the country and stability Liberals – No no no no no it’s a slippery slope Socially –Gay marriage Conservatives – Hell to the no Liberals – Hell yeah! Legalize the weed while you’re at it! *** Virtually all distinctions between the left versus the right in the united states is based almost explicitly on social issues Polarize the united states Not the case for the broader spectrum of the left vs the right in the world Ultra concentrated power on the right –fascist or nazi state Ultra liberal distribution of power –democracy or communism Wide open free market on the right Socialism bleeding into communisms on the left

Who’s got it right? Up to you to decide Boyer says BOTH! Valuable tools to understand our world Conservatives got it right –not all change is good! I mean look at communism! What a disaster. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Tradition is a part of our culture Liberals got it right –some old traditions suck ass, like human sacrifice??? Slave trade??? That was a tradition but a shitty one at that! Plus we all like religious freedom and rights do we not? The bible didn’t tell us anything about nukes therefore we gotta develop change and liberal thought. Serve to balance each other in society The conservative right lives IN the real practical world of now The liberal left lives FOR an ideal world they are working for All news sources have at least SOME bias one way or another. Recognize that!!! Ex. Chinese gov owns and controls ALL of the news sources and want to make themselves look good (duh) and are very pro-government. Present facts but done so with a spin that makes the government on the news. Left groups showed poor Left news source will try and portray news from the poor and oppressed only and not from the rest of the world Do these things! Use a variety of news sources! Identify their bias (worldpress.org) Triangulate the truth –see what different places are saying about the same topic Intro: A World of States Regions are user defined –there’s no singular world standard for what a region is States are what tax you, pass laws, builds roads and economy, and defends you oMain internationally accepted norm of dividing the planet

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
